Last Arrow Games Launches in Gateshead, Assembling Specialist Team for New IP

Last Arrow Games launches in Gateshead, led by industry veterans Ron Ashtiani and Owen O’Brien, focusing on innovative next-gen gaming experiences.

A new games development studio, Last Arrow Games, has officially launched in Gateshead. The studio, which is part of the Pneuma Games Group, is focused on creating what it describes as “innovative next-generation” gaming experiences.

Ron Ashtiani, the CEO of Last Arrow Games, emphasized the studio’s commitment to crafting “beautiful games that people will love.” He stated, “We are assembling a team of specialists with extensive genre-specific experience who are passionate about delivering innovative gameplay, exceptional execution, and an immersive player experience.”

The studio aims to build a robust development team capable of supporting its ambitious game design objectives. Led by a seasoned team with decades of industry experience, Last Arrow Games is positioning itself to enter a competitive market. Mr. Ashtiani, who brings over 27 years of experience in the entertainment sector, previously founded Atomhawk, a visual design studio that collaborated with major companies including Marvel Pictures, Warner Bros, Microsoft, and Sony.

His extensive portfolio includes contributions to Guardians of the Galaxy and numerous other video games. Joining Mr. Ashtiani is studio director Owen O’Brien, who possesses more than 28 years of industry know-how. Mr. O’Brien has served as executive producer for Mirror’s Edge and has worked on popular franchises like Harry Potter and Call of Duty.

The studio’s design director, Andrew Willans, brings nearly 20 years of experience, having worked on notable titles such as Driver San Francisco, Watch Dogs, and The Crew, as well as innovative projects like Deathsprint 66 and the Bafta-nominated Grow Home. In addition, Chris McClure, with over 25 years of technical expertise, will oversee the studio’s technical direction.

Despite the current challenges in the industry, including significant layoffs and a generally subdued appetite for private investment, Mr. O’Brien is optimistic. He noted, “The industry is facing increased pressures; however, Pneuma Games Group are bucking that trend. With their support, we’re able to build a new studio with a specialized team who are already working on the studio’s first original IP.”

Last Arrow Games is actively recruiting, particularly seeking specialists in Unreal Engine 5. The studio states that its mission is to reignite “the joy of gaming,” indicating a clear focus on player experience and engagement.

For those interested in joining the team, more information and job listings are available on the Last Arrow Games website. As the studio embarks on this new venture, it aims to carve out a significant space in the gaming landscape, potentially shaping the future of interactive entertainment.
