Publisher Xbox Game Studios and developer Stoic have officially announced that Towerborne, a side-scrolling action RPG brawler, will leave Early Access and launch for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on February 26. The game will also be available on Xbox Game Pass. Players can choose between a Standard Edition priced at $24.99 and a Deluxe Edition at $29.99.
Towerborne places players in the role of an Ace, an immortal warrior tasked with defending the Belfry against encroaching darkness. The game invites players to navigate a crumbling world, uncover the mysteries of the fallen City of Numbers, and combat the corruption threatening humanity’s very existence. Combining classic combo-based combat with modern RPG elements, Towerborne enables players to customize their Aces with powerful gear and diverse combat styles, allowing skill refinement through relentless battles.
One of the central features of Towerborne is its emphasis on flexible play styles. Whether players prefer quick pick-up-and-play sessions or more intricate systems to master, the game adapts to their preferences. The fast-paced, responsive combat rewards precise timing and creativity, ensuring a fresh and challenging experience with each encounter.
Collaboration is also a key element of the game, as players can team up with up to three other Aces or embark on solo adventures supported by Umbra, which offers unique abilities. This cooperative gameplay amplifies the chaos of combat and enhances the overall experience, where teamwork and strategy are vital for success.
Beyond combat, Towerborne features a compelling Story Campaign that adds depth to the gameplay. Players can explore the lore, characters, and stakes involved in the Belfry’s survival, allowing for a rich narrative experience that can be enjoyed at their own pace. The campaign is designed to keep players engaged even when they are offline, as they can reconnect to continue fighting alongside friends without losing progress.
The upcoming Version 1.0 of Towerborne will include a complete story arc featuring a major antagonist, new side quests, and an updated Bounty Board. Players can expect the addition of two new bosses, including the main antagonist, as well as lieutenants and new enemy types. To accommodate different skill levels, Stoic has introduced a fully reworked difficulty system, which includes an entirely new “Brutal” mode for those seeking an extra challenge.
The game also features a reimagined World Map with a new coastal biome, enhancing exploration opportunities. Additionally, players will encounter new gear, abilities, and a Forge system that allows them to modify, upgrade, and re-roll stats on their weapons.
In addition to gameplay enhancements, Towerborne will launch with new music from acclaimed composer Austin Wintory. The developers have also focused on quality of life improvements and removing cosmetic purchases, allowing players to obtain all cosmetics through gameplay. With multiple save slots and the ability to import existing characters and loot, the game aims to provide a more seamless and enjoyable experience for both new and returning players.
The launch of Towerborne marks a significant milestone for Stoic, who gained acclaim with their previous titles. As the gaming community anticipates the release, the combination of engaging gameplay, a rich narrative, and cooperative elements positions Towerborne as a noteworthy addition to the action RPG genre. Its February launch will not only satisfy fans of the genre but also invite newcomers to explore the vibrant world of the Belfry.
