PlayStation Offers Legendary FPS for PS5 Users at Just $6 This Week

G2 Esports secures a stunning 3-1 victory over FaZe Clan, claiming the $100K prize at the Throne of Champions tournament.

PlayStation 5 users have a unique opportunity to purchase one of the most critically acclaimed first-person shooters, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, for just $6. This significant offer, which represents an 85% discount, is available on the PlayStation Store and does not require a PlayStation Plus membership. However, interested buyers should act quickly, as the promotion is set to expire on January 22, just five days from now. After the discount period ends, the game will revert to its regular price of $39.99.

Originally released in 2017 by MachineGames and Bethesda, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus is a sequel to the 2014 title Wolfenstein: The New Order. It garnered significant acclaim during its launch year, evidenced by four nominations at The Game Awards, including a win for Best Action Game. It also received nominations for Best Game Direction, Best Narrative, and Best Performance, along with an impressive score of 87 on Metacritic. While it lacks a multiplayer mode, it boasts one of the most engaging single-player campaigns in the history of first-person shooters.

There is a scarcity of high-quality single-player campaigns within the first-person shooter genre, which primarily focuses on multiplayer experiences. This makes Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus particularly noteworthy, especially as it remains the latest mainline entry in the Wolfenstein series despite its nearly nine-year age. Rumors indicate that a successor may finally be in development, making this an opportune moment for newcomers to dive into the franchise.

In addition to the 2017 title, potential players are encouraged to explore its predecessor, Wolfenstein: The New Order, as the two games are narratively interconnected. While both games are well-regarded, the 2014 release is also available for $19.99 on the PlayStation Store. It’s important to note, however, that neither the first game nor its standalone expansion, Wolfenstein: The Old Blood, is currently part of the sale. The spin-off title, Wolfenstein: Youngblood, released in 2019, is also on sale for $6 but has received largely negative reviews and is not expected to play a significant narrative role in the franchise’s future, prompting many to recommend steering clear of it.

Given that Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus has not been priced lower than $6 since its release nearly a decade ago, it is unlikely that consumers will find a better deal in the foreseeable future. Bethesda has previously offered substantial discounts on its titles; however, a future price drop beyond 5% seems improbable. As such, this sale represents a rare chance for gamers to experience a standout title from the past at an unprecedented price.

As discussions about the future of the Wolfenstein series continue, players who take advantage of this sale will not only enjoy a storied campaign but will also position themselves well for whatever comes next in the franchise. Those interested in the evolving landscape of single-player first-person shooters will find Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus to be an essential part of gaming history.
