PlayStation Announces PS Plus January 2026 Free Games: Core Keeper and More

FaZe Clan secures a thrilling 2-1 victory over G2 Esports in the Grand Finals of the CS:GO Major, taking home a $1 million prize.

The first free monthly PlayStation Plus games for subscribers in 2026 have been announced, revealing a modest selection for PS5 and PS4 players. Unlike the previous month, which featured five titles, this January offers only three games. As of December 31, Sony confirmed that these games will be available for download starting January 6, providing subscribers with a chance to permanently add them to their PlayStation library as long as their subscription to PS Plus Essential, Extra, or Premium remains active.

The lineup includes “Need For Speed Unbound,” a racing game exclusive to the PS5, alongside “Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed,” which is available on both PS4 and PS5, and “Core Keeper,” also accessible on both platforms. “Epic Mickey: Rebrushed” is notable for being a remaster of the 2010 platformer created by Warren Spector, the director known for his work on the “Deus Ex” series. This remaster serves as a perfect entry point for newcomers and offers a nostalgic revisit for those familiar with the original title.

“Need For Speed Unbound,” the 25th installment in the famed racing franchise, stands out for its unique cel-shaded art style. Although it may not be the most memorable entry in the series, it delivers an engaging racing experience that fans have come to expect. On the other hand, “Core Keeper” is quickly becoming a significant highlight this month. This top-down pixel art crafting simulator combines elements from popular games like “Minecraft” and “Stardew Valley,” allowing players to mine resources, build structures, and manage their characters in a vibrant, pixelated world. The game’s frequent updates, including a new expansion titled “Void & Voltage” set to be released later this month, enhance its appeal and longevity.

While this month’s offerings may not generate the same excitement as last month’s selection, they still provide worthwhile gameplay experiences for subscribers. The adjustments in the number of games reflect a broader trend in PlayStation’s strategy to balance quality and quantity in their PS Plus offerings. As the gaming landscape continues to evolve, players remain attuned to Sony’s decisions regarding their subscription services.

As players prepare to dive into the new titles, the significance of these monthly releases cannot be understated. They not only represent a value addition for subscribers but also serve as a window into the shifting priorities of gaming companies as they navigate consumer preferences. With the gaming year now underway, the focus will remain on how these monthly releases evolve and what they indicate for the future of subscription services in gaming.
