VR Giants Launches on Quest 3 with Crossplay and Free Friend’s Pass for Co-op Play

Co-op platformer VR Giants launches on Quest 3 and 3S, featuring a Free Friend’s Pass for seamless multiplayer and eight hours of gameplay across 23 levels.

Co-op platformer VR Giants is now available on the Quest 3 and Quest 3S, allowing players to invite a friend to join the experience at no additional cost. Developed by Risa Interactive, the game was initially released in 2023 on Steam and offers an asymmetric gameplay dynamic where one player takes on the role of Goliath, a towering giant, while the other controls David, his human companion.

In VR Giants, Goliath guides David through various obstacles, using his immense size to lift him, shield him from hazards, and solve puzzles together. The cooperative gameplay emphasizes teamwork as players navigate through challenges tailored to their complementary abilities.

The game promises a campaign lasting around eight hours and features cross-platform multiplayer compatibility, allowing players on both Quest and Steam to team up. A noteworthy aspect of the game is the ‘Free Friend’s Pass’ system, which enables players to invite a friend to join as David without requiring both to purchase the game. This system utilizes a room code for easy access.

Players can explore a total of 23 levels across four distinct biomes: Ice, Desert, Volcano, and Pasture. Each biome presents unique hazards and puzzles, with Goliath able to transform into three different forms to aid in progression. For instance, ‘Fire Goliath’ adopts a lava-themed form, while ‘Temporary Goliath’ is a brief manifestation activated by holding down a button. The game also includes unlockable cosmetics for Goliath, enhancing the visual customization options.

While the Quest 3 and Quest 3S versions of VR Giants require both players to use VR headsets, the Steam version allows one player to control David using a gamepad, introducing a flatscreen component to the gameplay. In light of this, Risa Interactive has updated the Steam version to include online co-op capabilities, expanding gameplay options beyond the original local multiplayer setup.

For enhanced gameplay experience, two additional camera modes are available for David on the Quest 3 and 3S. One mode aims to deliver maximum immersion in virtual reality, while the other, termed ‘Cinema Mode,’ provides a viewing experience that closely mirrors the flatscreen setup on Steam, allowing players to observe David’s actions from a virtual 2D perspective.

VR Giants is currently out in early access on both PC VR and the Quest 3/3S. As the game continues to evolve, its unique cooperative mechanics and engaging environments are likely to attract players looking for fresh experiences in the VR space. With promising updates and community feedback, Risa Interactive is poised to expand on the foundations laid with this release, potentially setting a new benchmark for cooperative VR experiences.
