The MMORPG New World: Aeternum has been officially delisted from the PlayStation Store as of January 15, 2025, according to an announcement from developer and publisher Amazon Game Studios. The company confirmed that the game’s servers will cease operation completely by January 31, 2027, marking the end of an era for the title and its community.
Players who have invested in New World: Aeternum will have until the shutdown date to explore its expansive world one last time. Following the conclusion of this period, access to the game will be completely terminated across all platforms, including the PlayStation 5. The final season, known as Nighthaven, will be extended until the shutdown date, providing players with an opportunity to experience its content before the game is permanently taken offline.
While in-game purchases will remain available until July 20, 2026, players should take note that refunds for items such as Marks of Fortune will not be issued. Those who recently acquired the game and wish to seek a refund are encouraged to reach out to their respective platform’s customer support for assistance. The decision to end support for New World: Aeternum comes after Amazon Game Studios initially indicated that support would conclude in October 2025; however, a specific shutdown date had not been disclosed at that time.
In a heartfelt statement, Amazon Game Studios expressed their gratitude towards the community, stating, “We want to thank the players for your dedication and passion. We are grateful for the time spent crafting the world of Aeternum with you. Together we built something special. While we are saddened to say goodbye, we’re honored that we were able to share so much with the community.” This sentiment reflects the studio’s recognition of the players’ commitment over the years, emphasizing the collaborative nature of the game’s development.
Despite the cessation of new content and server fixes, Amazon Game Studios has assured the player base that they will continue to monitor for bugs and performance issues until the final shutdown. This decision aligns with the studio’s ongoing commitment to maintaining a playable experience up until the game’s conclusion. The developers previously acknowledged the community’s enthusiasm, stating, “Your dedication and enthusiasm have made this New World adventure an unforgettable journey.”
The impending shutdown raises questions regarding the future of MMORPGs developed by major studios, as New World: Aeternum was one of several high-profile titles to enter the genre in recent years. The game’s journey since its launch has been marked by both commendable achievements and notable challenges, illustrating the complexities of sustaining an MMORPG in today’s competitive landscape. As the community prepares for the final chapter of Aeternum, the focus now shifts to how players will commemorate their experiences in this unique virtual world.
