NetEase Games has unveiled a new gameplay trailer for its upcoming open-world ocean-fantasy RPG, Sea of Remnants, and has announced a Closed Alpha Test set to begin on February 5, 2026. The testing period, dubbed the “Wanderer Test,” will run until February 12, 2026, exclusively on PC. Interested players have until January 23, 2026, to apply for the test by engaging with the official trailer post on the Sea of Remnants Twitter account or by joining the official Discord channel to complete an application questionnaire, noting that spaces are limited.
The gameplay trailer highlights the title’s focus on ocean exploration, featuring various pirate ship battles and an array of islands to discover. Players will assume the role of a puppetfolk sailor with amnesia, setting off on a journey to uncover their past while exploring the vast seas. The unique visual style, showcasing characters designed as puppets, adds a distinctive flair to the game’s aesthetic.
Although a specific release date has yet to be disclosed, Sea of Remnants is expected to launch on both PlayStation 5 and PC/Steam. Developed by Joker Studio, known for their work on Identity V, the game promises a rich gameplay experience that includes traversing oceans, engaging in ship battles, racing, and visiting islands. Players can also expect a variety of mini-games and quests as they navigate through this fantastical realm.
The gameplay mechanics appear extensive, featuring challenges that range from battling enemies such as giant bats and treasure-laden crabs to a unique cooking and crafting system. Players will have the opportunity to customize their pirate fleet and form bonds with over 300 companions, impacting the dynamic world of the pirate city of Orbtopia.
In addition to the core exploration elements, the game includes platforming sections and puzzles, enhancing the overall gameplay experience. The battle system is reportedly turn-based, allowing tactical decision-making during encounters. The narrative is steeped in lore, hinting at a deeper mystery involving a legend about another sea located beyond the moon, where unanswered questions may lie waiting for the player to discover.
As the trailer suggests, the protagonist’s journey to regain lost memories may be symbolized by various motifs, such as a floating glass bottle or a butterfly, each potentially representing different facets of the character’s past and transformation. This intriguing narrative element is likely to engage players as they uncover the secrets of the world around them.
With the Closed Alpha Test approaching, excitement is building within the gaming community as players await the chance to delve into the vibrant world of Sea of Remnants. Those interested can wishlist the game on Steam and the PlayStation Store, further indicating a strong interest in this unique title. As the release approaches, it will be interesting to see how the development team incorporates player feedback into the final version of the game, shaping a new chapter in the realm of oceanic exploration RPGs.
