Team Cherry Reveals Hollow Knight Switch 2 Upgrade with Higher Frame Rates for 2026

Team Cherry announces a free upgrade for Hollow Knight on Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026, featuring higher frame rates and visual enhancements.

Following the recent announcement that Hollow Knight: Silksong has surpassed 7 million copies sold and introduced exciting new downloadable content, Team Cherry has confirmed that a version of the game specifically for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 is currently in development. This anticipated version will feature enhancements such as higher frame rates, improved resolutions, and various visual upgrades, ensuring that players will experience the game at its best on the new hardware.

For players who already own the original Nintendo Switch version of the game, the Switch 2 upgrade will be available for free. This initiative reflects Team Cherry’s commitment to its player base, allowing existing owners to enjoy the updated experience without additional costs. The release date for the Switch 2 version is currently set for 2026, positioning it as a notable title for the platform’s launch lineup.

Team Cherry has also assured that other platforms will not miss out on the updates and enhancements. Players on PC can already access a public beta that introduces several new features, including support for 16:10 and 21:9 ultrawide resolutions. These changes aim to improve gameplay aesthetics and usability for a broader range of monitors. Interested players can join the beta by navigating to the game’s properties on Steam, selecting the beta options, and choosing “public-beta Public -public beta.”

In addition to the graphical improvements, the latest patch notes for the PC version reveal a variety of gameplay tweaks and fixes. Among the updates, players will notice that the game now pauses when navigating inventory menus, a small but significant quality of life improvement. The transition to the Unity Input System enhances controller support, allowing for a more versatile gaming experience, while the option to revert to the original input system remains for those who prefer it.

Other adjustments include the addition of a dithering effect to minimize color banding, a fix for a softlock issue in the City of Tears Grub room, and a reduction in the stagger bounce height for the character Grey Prince Zote. Additionally, changes have been made to the collider of Sly’s Great Slash to better match its visual representation. The update also ensures that Salubra’s Blessing deactivates after reaching the maximum Soul, and map panning is now smoother, contributing to a more fluid gameplay experience.

These updates reflect Team Cherry’s dedication to refining and enhancing the Hollow Knight experience. Players can expect a range of smaller fixes and improvements, underscoring the developer’s attention to detail and commitment to player satisfaction. For those eager to explore the changes firsthand, more specific details about the PC public beta can be found on the Steam community page dedicated to the game.

As anticipation builds for both the Switch 2 version and future updates, Hollow Knight continues to solidify its place in the indie gaming landscape. The long-awaited sequel, Silksong, alongside these enhancements, suggests that Team Cherry is not only dedicated to maintaining its existing player base but also to expanding its reach in the gaming community. With a solid foundation and a promising future, fans can look forward to what lies ahead for this beloved franchise.
