M7 World Championship Launches in Indonesia with First Opening Ceremony and $1M Prize Pool

M7 World Championship to kick off in Jakarta on January 9, 2026, featuring 22 teams and a $1M prize pool, spotlighting Indonesia’s esports culture.

JAKARTA, INDONESIA – Media OutReach Newswire – 13 December 2025 – The M7 World Championship (M7) is poised to showcase Indonesia’s vibrant esports culture on a global stage. Slated for 9 January 2026, the event promises to elevate the nation’s status as a central hub for Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) esports. Organized by MOONTON Games, the M7 will mark the first grand opening in the history of the M Series, transforming Jakarta into an hub of esports through a citywide celebration inspired by major sporting events.

The M7 Opening Ceremony will blend the passion of MLBB esports with Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage, featuring a cinematic journey through the capital’s iconic landmarks. Tiger Xu, Global Head of MLBB Esports at MOONTON Games, emphasized the significance of the event, stating, “The M7 Opening Ceremony will celebrate MLBB Esports’ rise as an integral part of Indonesia’s sporting landscape.” He further noted that MLBB’s popularity rivals traditional sports such as football and badminton, with over 100 million watch hours each season in the MLBB Professional League (MPL) Indonesia.

Riezha Haryo Wiguna, a member of the Competition Division at the Indonesian Esports Central Board (PBESI), echoed this sentiment, highlighting the tournament’s role in promoting local talent and putting Indonesia on the global esports map. He remarked, “The M7 is not just a competition. [The tagline], Let the World See Us, means it’s a celebration of legacy, community, and the future of the esports industry.”

With 22 teams set to compete from 3 to 25 January, the tournament will feature a USD 1,000,000 prize pool. The tournament draw, unveiled during the M7 Press Conference, outlines the competitive landscape as top teams aim for the championship. The Wild Card Stage features eight teams split into two groups, with Virtus Pro (VP) and ZETA DIVISION (ZETA) leading the charge. VP enters the tournament with momentum after winning the MLBB Mid Season Cup (MSC) at the 2025 Esports World Cup (EWC), while ZETA makes its return to the international stage for the first time since M2.

The Swiss Stage promises early excitement with two highly anticipated matchups: Team Liquid (TL) against Aurora Gaming PH (RORA) and Selangor Red Giants (SRG) facing CG Esports (CG). Team Liquid aims to accomplish the unprecedented feat of the Golden Road, winning all major MLBB titles in a single year. This milestone adds an extra layer of intrigue to their opening match against RORA.

Fans can engage with the festivities through the M7 Pass, available from 1 January to 25 January, offering exclusive in-game rewards, including the Gatotkaca “Solar Spark” skin, inspired by Indonesian folklore. Players will also have access to skins for Granger, M7 Lottery Coins, and additional rewards as they progress through the event.

As the M Series continues to expand its global reach, several strategic partnerships have been announced. Visa is set to empower youth through financial inclusion initiatives while introducing the first Mythic VIP experience for fans, featuring premium seating and exclusive merchandise. realme has been named the M7 Official Gaming Phone, enhancing the tournament experience with its dedicated esports functions.

Moreover, MOONTON Games has partnered with 1Play to launch a Trading Card Collection, allowing fans to engage with the tournament’s legacy through physical collectibles. Secretlab, marking its fifth consecutive year with the M Series, will provide ergonomic seating designed for peak performance, enhancing the overall experience for players and fans alike.

The M7 Carnival, set to transform Jakarta into a vibrant esports festival from 23 to 25 January, will feature six interactive zones and MLBB’s first official pop-up store. Fans will have the chance to meet MPL Indonesia stars, M7 teams, and popular content creators, with over 15,000 prizes, including exclusive merchandise and limited-time skins, available throughout the event.

As MLBB was crowned 2024’s most popular mobile esports title with over 475 million Hours Watched (HW), the upcoming M7 World Championship is expected to further solidify its status in the esports landscape. Looking ahead, MLBB is set to feature as a medalled event at the upcoming 2026 Asian Games, further cementing its position among traditional sports.
